Citizens Advice in Your GP Surgery
We work with GP surgeries across Milton Keynes to support patients with non-medical issues that may be affecting their health and wellbeing. We do this through two services: Advice on Prescription and Social Prescribing.
Both aim to improve people’s health and reduce pressure on busy GPs and other frontline services, but they work in different ways.
Advice on Prescription
Advice on Prescription gives patients direct access to a Citizens Advice Adviser from within their GP surgery.
We help with the practical problems that often affect health, such as:
- debt
- benefits
- housing
- work and employment
- family issues
- consumer and legal issues

How to access Advice on Prescription
The following surgeries are working with us to offer this service to their patients:
- Asplands Medical Centre
- Fishermead Medical Centre
- Walnut Tree Health Centre
- Whaddon Medical Centre
- Water Eaton Health Centre
Please contact them directly to book the next available appointment. Your doctor or health professional may also suggest using the service during a consultation.
Appointments are offered either face-to-face or by phone / video call, depending on room availability at your GP surgery.
Social Prescribing
Social Prescribing helps people improve their wellbeing by connecting them with local activities, groups and community support. Our Link Workers can support you with:
- becoming more active
- improving mental wellbeing
- meeting people and reducing isolation
- living independently
- money and practical worries
- finding confidence and purpose

How to access Social Prescribing
If you’re registered as a patient with one of these surgeries, please contact your GP surgery directly.
