Research and Campaigns
We aim to make life fairer for the people of Milton Keynes by actively campaigning against unfair policies of government, service providers and other bodies. Tackling problems at source helps everyone, whether they have come to us for advice or not.
Our campaigning is effective because it is rooted in the experiences of real people – our clients.
We try to have an influence at local, regional and national levels, by joining with other local Citizens Advice services in major national campaigns or by carrying out smaller, local pieces of work.
What is research & campaigns work?
All of us are affected by the rules and principles which shape the services and benefits that we all rely on. These are evident in legislation, regulations, codes of practice and the policies of service providers. However, they are not always written down or easy for many people to find out about.
Lots of policies affecting our clients are national, such as social security, employment and immigration laws. Others are affected by local policies and practices such as housing benefit, community care, housing, health and education.
Our team of researchers are currently campaigning on the following issues:
- The impact of Universal Credit and the waiting period for a first payment.
- Issues affecting tenants who have been living in a House In Multiple Occupancy (HIMO) since October 2018.
- Disabled, registered blind or partially sighted people who have problems using taxi services in and around Milton Keynes.
If you’ve been affected by any of these then we would love to hear your story.
